About Me
I have been playing guitar, bass and drums since 1982. Initially I took up the Classical Guitar, achieving Grade 8 (ABRSM) by age 18. I was also a keen student of the Electric Guitar, playing in several school bands and musicals. I also studied the Bass Guitar to an advanced level on both four and five string variants.
Alongside this, I was inspired (at school) to take up drums and percussion. I took classical percussion lessons, eventually achieving Grade 8 (Guildhall) on combined percussion. I attended the South Nottinghamshire Music School on Saturdays, eventually leading the percussion sections in their Senior Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra. I progressed form here into Notts County Concert Band, and finally the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra, the regions leading amateur orchestra.
Following these early experiences, for the past 20 years I have played guitar, bass or drums in numerous professional and semi-pro bands, ranging from a flamenco/jazz nylon strung duo to several function/corporate/party bands, performing a vast selection of material at all manner of events and venues.
Teaching and performing music is my passion, and I count myself very fortunate to be able to make my living from doing what I enjoy most.
Away from music, I live with my wife and daughter in Mapperley, just north of Nottingham. Together we take pleasure in most of the “usual” family activities, and can often be found doing DIY, gardening, and enjoying “days out” at National Trust locations throughout the region and beyond.
